(CBC News)”The price is a big shock to consumers, particularly the younger generation who are buying these things to replace their old tires,” said Chris Cairns, a professor of economics at the University of British Columbia.

According to Costco, the new bikes will be available starting July 6.
Prices are set at $1.20 per kilogram (8.7 pounds) for a 25 cent price discount on a single-cylinder model and $1 per kilo (11.1 pounds) on a two-cylindered model.
The bike will also be available in two styles: a regular model that has a 30-kilogram (52 pounds) capacity and a lightweight version that has just under 12 kilos (24 pounds).
The bikes will also come with a 10-kilometre (six-mile) limited-access parking lane.
